Week 39 (Huamantla, Tlaxcala, Mexico) Cow eyeball and cow tongue, yummm!
Hola mis amigos
Another good week here in Huamantla. It was a pretty slow week though because I got a sinus infection so that slowed me down. I am better now so this week should be a lot better.
Despite being sick, missionary work wasn't that bad. We ended up lending out 12 Books of Mormon, found 8 new people, 4 people we are teaching went to church and we taught 12 lessons. Not terrible but being sick definitely didn't help. We got this one reference from a member who is her brother. He has been going to church for the past couple of weeks but he didn't live in Huamantla so we couldn't teach him. He ended up moving here and I am so glad he did because he is definitely one of the chosen ones lol. We have taught him a few lessons and he has a date to get baptized this Sunday the 25th and accepted and also did a fast for the very first time with his niece! It is so awesome to see him progress. One of the reasons why he did a fast was to ask for strength because he is trying to stop drinking and smoking! So he for sure has desires to change.
We also went to a goodbye party for a member who is going to serve his mission in Brazil. I also got to try some pretty interesting foods lol. We ate barbacoa. I really don't know how to explain it but the way they cook it is really weird. Basically they dig a hole in the ground, put in some coals and light it. But they don't want fire to just burn the coals because it needs to be very hot. They cook it with heat, not fire. They then put a pot with literally every part of the animal they are cooking, on this occasion a cow. They then cover it with this type of plant that I forgot what it is called . Then with a whole bunch of tarps to keep the heat in. It tasted so good. The two new things I tried were cow eye and cow tongue! They both actually weren't that bad but the tongue was better haha.
On Saturday the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square came to CDMX! Of course we didn't get to go but they streamed it online so we got to watch. It was so good but a little too long. It started at 7:30 and ended at like 9:30 almost at 9:45. Still dope though.
Sunday I had the opportunity to give a talk. I decided to talk about sacrifices. Something I learned about sacrifices is that we all should be sacrificing everything for the Lord. But in Matthew 19:29 says
And everyone that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
I love the promise in the scripture, that no matter what we have to leave behind to follow the Savior, we will receive 100 fold more and have eternal life. I would like to invite all of you to make the sacrifices necessary to follow our Savior and I promise that if you do you will see so many blessings and miracles in your life!
Thank you all for the emails, I need to get better at writing back. I will try and do that in the next couple of weeks. Have a great semana!
Con mucho amor,
Elder Bailey
